A Formal Portrait

I’m not known for my formal portraits.  I mostly shoot photojournalistic style, with some work with posing, but almost always in a natural environment.  This week, I was asked by Archangel Michael Orthodox Church in Burbank, IL to take a formal portrait of the priest there (who happens to be my husband).  So, we packed up the kids and went next door to the church, where I shot a nice formal portrait of my husband.  I think it came out lovely, and I’m so pleased to be able to shoot things I don’t normally shoot, in a manner I don’t usually shoot them.  This type of growth is vital, especially as I’ve slowed my photographer business down.  Enjoy the photo!

Last Bit of Foliage

I’m so happy that I managed to get outside with the family tonight, after a full day at the Museum of Science and Industry!  There were still some leaves on the trees tonight, and with some beautiful setting sun, I grabbed some quick photos of the family.  Here’s just one of my amazing husband!

Donna & Paul | Paramus, NJ Wedding

Years ago, Donna told me that she wanted me to photograph her wedding, when the time came to be married.  What a compliment!  In the mean time, she sent two other brides my way, and Donna and I have become real friends – not just photographer and client.  I was so privileged to finally photograph Donna’s wedding this weekend.  Congratulations, Donna and Paul!

Kip’s Castle | Verona, NJ

When I was a young child, we would visit this park which, at that time, had run-down castle ruins.  We used to love walking around the rocks of the grounds, trying to figure out how to get into the castle, and looking at the Manhattan skyline.  While visiting New Jersey this weekend for a wedding (blog coming soon!), I just had to go and find this park and castle.  A simple phone call to my mother followed by some Google work, I found the park, and discovered that the castle has been restored.  To be completely honest, I wasn’t convinced that this was the same park and the same castle.  But, as soon as I pulled up today, I knew it was the same place!  It was such a joy to walk around the park, remembering the times I did this with my brothers and sister and parents.  Of course, the grounds are STUNNING and I was left wishing I had someone there that I could photograph.  In the end, I simply photographed the beauty of the park, but I hope to someday return with a bride and groom and really be able to utilize all the gorgeous nooks and crannies!
